Phillip Prince has studied music as long as he can remember. Many times, he and his family sat around the kitchen table singing and learning the shaped-note system, while putting that knowledge into learning new songs under the direction and instruction of his dad, Mr. Gordon Prince. He also studied under the direction of Mr. Dorsey C. Yarbrough and Mr. C.C. Stafford while attending the renowned Stamps/Baxter School of Music and later the National School of Music when it was located in Roanoke, Alabama. Phillip has studied song writing under Mr. C.C. Stafford, Mr. Dorsey Yarbrough, Dr. A. Charles Allen and Mr. Charles Towler, having several songs published in our Church hymnal, and each of the convention song books.
Phillip comes from a rich musical heritage, having made his first record at the age of nine while singing with his family, the singing “Prince Family.” He grew up being a part of gospel singing, having been around and sung with some of the greats in the Southern Gospel Music industry. He also has sung and recorded with various groups, including, the afore mentioned, The Singing Prince Family, Southern Harmony and the Southern Heirs. Phillip has studied voice under the direction of Dr. A. Charles Allen and Mrs. Eloise Phillips.
Throughout his life, he has been involved in convention-style singing, having served as president of the Jacksonville Gospel Singers Association for five years. He has written numerous gospel songs, having several in publication, and has been active in teaching music, promoting shaped-note style of music of every kind throughout the U.S. Phillip lives in Jacksonville, Florida, with his wife Tammy and daughters. Mr. Phillip Prince is owner and operator of the National School of Music, and operates 2-3 regional schools in Tennessee, Texas and California, including various congregational church schools throughout the United States.
Maegan Prince is a graduate from Trinity Christian Academy and is currently employed at Voya Financial. Very early in her youth, Maegan could be heard singing at every chance she could and continues to this very day, always singing while she goes through her normal daily activities. Whenever a group of people are sitting around singing, Maegan can usually be seen participating with song book in hand.
She has been schooled in music by her late grandfather, Mr. Gordon Prince, her father, Mr. Phillip Prince, Mr. Charles Towler, Mr. Jack Clark, Ms. Tracy Phillips and Mrs. Eloise Phillips. She has been helpful to her father in the Jacksonville Gospel Singers Association in Jacksonville, FL, as well as heading sectionals during The National School of Music. In 2007, she began assisting her aunt, Mrs. Lynn Prince Sessions, in the Beginners class at The National School of Music. But soon, as also with her sister, Ms. Allison Prince, began having her own class in the beginners, and at times, intermediate classes at the National School of Music. Maegan has written several songs that have been been published in our church hymnal as well as a few of the convention music song books. Maegan lives in Starke, FL
Allison Prince is a High School graduate from Trinity Christian Academy, in Jacksonville, FL. She has studied music under the direction of her late grandfather, Mr. Gordon Prince, her father, Mr. Phillip Prince and other music educators such as Mr. Charles Towler, Mr. Jack Clark, Ms. Tracy Phillips and Mrs. Eloise Phillips. She has written several songs that have been published in our church hymnal as well as a few in the conventional music song books. She has assisted and supported her father during his tenure as President of the Jacksonville Gospel Singers Association, in Jacksonville, FL.
Allison’s love for music goes back to her early childhood days where she could be heard singing the old favorites she learned from her youth. Whenever there is a group of people singing, Allison can be counted among the group singing new songs as well as the old favorites. In 2007, she began assisting her aunt, Mrs. Lynn Prince Sessions, in the Beginners class at National School of Music, and since that time to the present, has taken full responsibilities of one of the beginners class at each school . Allison resides in Jacksonville, Florida and works full time as a Production manager at Gerber Collision and Glass.
Elton Prince has been actively involved with musical activity and study ever since childhood. He has been a student of the National School of Music since it’s inception in 2001 until 2010, in which he served his first year as staff. Son of prolific songwriter Billy Prince, the composer of “Love,” “My Unseen Friend,” and “All That I Need,” he is starting to pave his way in the world of sacred shape-note compositions. His first completed work, “Thank You God”, was performed on the recording of the 2010 National School of Music in Witchita Falls, TX.
Elton is has a degree in music education from Belmont University, and graduated December of 2011. While pursuing this degree from Belmont University, he has had the opportunity to study music theory, aural skills, conducting, vocal pedagogy and literature, and orchestration from various professors. He has studied voice under Dr. Lawrence Bond and Mr. Thomas Studebaker, a current performer in opera, oratorio, and other classical vocal music. Elton Prince serves as a private tutor of music theory and aural skills at Belmont University and teaches music once a month at his home congregation in Nashville, TN.
After graduation from Belmont University, Elton Prince plans on teaching general music at an elementary grade level. He plans on pursuing a graduate degree in music education with a specialization in either elementary music or secondary choral music, and has given significant thought to pursuing a post-graduate degree in conducting. He plans on teaching at the National School of Music for as long as he is able
Kevin W. Presley was born in Wichita, KS on July 28, 1973 and reared in a Christian home. In 1979, his family moved to Oklahoma and it is there that Kevin’s desire to preach was born.
In 1994, Kevin was ordained as an evangelist and has spent the last 15 years holding as many as 25 gospel meetings a year throughout the United States. He has also preached in the Philippines. He continues to preach in gospel meetings across the nation.
Kevin’s love for gospel music goes all the way back to his early childhood. As a toddler, he learned to play records on his mother’s record player and spent hours listening to many of the greats in gospel music. Kevin is active in teaching and promoting shaped-note convention style music throughout the country. Kevin has sung with several groups and has recorded with the Southern Heirs.
Kevin makes his home in Dothan, AL with his wife, Bethany, and their two daughters.
Krista Hatter has a Bachelor of Science in Vocal Music Education. While studying music, she has participated in multiple choral, ensemble, and solo opportunities. She has given music lessons in the areas of voice, guitar, and piano. She has assisted in voice lessons and sectionals at the singing schools since 2009.
Krista currently resides in Oklahoma with the belief and experience that no one is beyond hope of some type of vocal improvement if he or she is willing to listen and put forth effort.
Lynn is the sister of Phillip Prince and grew up among a family who loved to sing. She made her first recording at age ten with her mother, father, and brother. Lynn has recorded with the groups Southern Harmony and Southern Heirs. Lynn is a prolific songwriter, having several songs in publication which have been used for congregational worship.
Lynn has done extensive study on the rudiments of music and harmony at the Stamps/Baxter School of Music and the National School of Music when it was located in Roanoke, Alabama, under the direction of the late Mr. Dorsey C. Yarbrough and the late Mr. C.C. Stafford. She has also studied voice under the direction of Dr. A. Charles Allen from Grapeland, Texas.
Lynn has served several terms as Vice President of the Jacksonville Gospel Singers Association in Jacksonville, Florida. Lynn lives in Jacksonville, Florida, with her husband Davey and has one daughter, Jayme.
